Dr Thomas Yip
Interventional cardiologist
After completing his interventional fellowship at Queen's University, Canada, in 2005, Thomas returned to Australia and served as an interventional cardiologist with Barwon Health from 2005 to 2019. He currently practices at St John of God Hospital Geelong and Epworth Hospital Geelong.
Thomas' clinical interests encompass general and interventional cardiology, advanced device therapies for coronary artery disease and structural heart disease, as well as renal denervation in the management of resistant hypertension. He holds accreditation in CT coronary angiography reporting.
He has acted as principal site investigator for international clinical trials, including CLARIFY and the Global Symplicity Registry, and has additional research interests in high-sensitivity cardiac troponins.
In 2015, Thomas undertook a sabbatical with Professor Jan Kovac at the University Hospitals of Leicester, UK, focusing on transcatheter interventions for structural heart disease. During this period, he developed expertise in TAVI (transcatheter aortic valve implantation) and LAAC (left atrial appendage closure).
The LAAC program was established at St John of God Hospital in 2018 and has since evolved into a leading service for patients in Geelong and South-West Victoria.
